These water mills were situated in the neighbourhood of Agia Mavri, in a verdant ravine with dense flora, and they were powered by water. Massive, carved millstones from Akamas were used to grind the grain. The remnants of these mills, which have been maintained to the present day, reveal little little about their former magnificence, when they serviced consumers day and night.

According to the 1946 census, there were 1,303 Greeks and 85 Turks in the village, whereas in 1973 there were 839 Greeks and 35 Turks.
