The church of Monogenes is very old and has preserved its ancient architecture as well as a number of priceless artifacts. It is an example of Byzantine architecture.
According to the history of Archimandrite Kyprianou, the church was renovated in 1766 at the expense of the Archbishop of Cyprus, Paisios, who was from Koilani. As Chrysanthos was nearing the end of his life, his successor initiated and oversaw the renovation. He passed away on January 1, 1767 in Larnaca’s holy church of Agios Lazaros.
